The variable was created from multiple survey questions, specifically V1. and V2.
The child BMI variable was calculated from children's height and weight variables (if in US converted to metric) using the following equation: BMI=(mass (kg))/(height (m)^2). The calculated BMI and percentile growth charts from the CDC were used to categorize children as Normal (<85th percentile), overweight (>=85th and <95th percentile) and obese (>=95th percentile). Each child's age (used mid-year e.g., 30.5 months for a 2 year old) and gender were used to determine which percentile cut-offs to compare. The universe for this variable includes all children age 0 to 17.
