This variable was created based on PS_5, PS_6, PS_7, PS_9, and PS_10.

Descriptive Text

The variable is calculated to show the percentage of respondents who comply with US Preventive Services Task Force recommendations for colon cancer screening. These recommendations include having performed any of the following: -Blood Stool Test (a.k.a. Fecal Occult Blood Test) in the past year -Sigmoidoscopy in the past five years and a blood stool test in the past three years -Colonoscopy in the past 10 years This variable was designed to match the Healthy People 2020 goals which are based on males and females ages 50-74 years. Variable cln_scrn does not match Q14. Ever had sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy because Q14. Ever had sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy includes respondents with screenings outside the recommended time limit for either a blood stool test (1 year); Sigmoidoscopy (5 years); or colonoscopy (10 years).
